Lot preparation........

Regulations require that the foundation of our house be 6 ft above water level. That meant tons of sand had to be hauled in and the site of the house be raised. Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA), has been quite involved, due to the proximity of the house to water's edge. They had to come out prior to lot preparation to determine that we could actually build on the lot, approve the house plans we had chosen, tell us what we needed to do to be 'compliant' with regulations regarding water run-off, not intruding into what was considered wetland area, etc etc etc (and they continue to be involved...........).
The foundation consists of 36 pilings..........building codes don't require that many, but in an effort to make our 'house upon the sand' more secure, Jim decided to add more! He is building us a very sturdy house. :)
