So this is how it began....after many years of searching around for a place on the water (that we could afford.....), Jim discovered a previously unlisted lot on the water on a little place called Harkers Island, NC. We had visited there several times, even put a deposit on a lot that wasn't on the water (not even a water view). November 2010 Jim received a call from his developer friend, Mike, who said "I have a lot I want you to look at". Jim traveled over to HI and took a close look at the lot, decided that this was 'the one' (assuming all the Coastal Management etc criteria were met) and came home and showed it to me on GOOGLE EARTH.
It met my wish of 'if we are going to move to the coast I'd like to be ON the water, or at least be able to see it", and my other wish of "wherever we move it has to have a "neat factor', which meant it would be someplace that our children would want to visit.
As this blog begins (our children will be amazed that their tech-deficient parents are doing a blog!), we want to document the process of building our retirement home on Harkers Island, NC.
