Our house is from a book of houseplans titled "Porches". And we do have porches. On the front of the house there are two front porches, and off the living area on the back of the house we have a deck. AND we also have a roof porch! Harkers Island is a small island and we can see lots of it from up there. We are located on West Bay (north side of Harkers Island), if we look off to the east we can see the Outer Banks (Cape Lookout National Seashore). From the roof we can look through the treetops to the southeast and we can actually see the Cape Lookout Lighthouse, which is pretty cool.
Harkers Island is an unincorporated island so there are no zoning restrictions unless you build in a neighborhood with HOA and the covenants of that neighborhood. We are not a part of a neighborhood, though there is a development right beside us.
